Kansas City Royals Gain a Scarlet Knight as Chris Brito Signs

Recent Rutgers graduate Chris Brito has signed with the Kansas City Royals. Brito becomes the third Scarlet Knight from the 2023 team to sign an MLB contract, following teammates Ryan Lasko and Drew Conover who both signed with the Oakland A's.

Brito finished his collegiate career by setting multiple records and receiving many honors. The Perth Amboy native carries three Rutgers records, the career home run record with 46, the career RBI record with 200, and the single season RBI record with 74 which he set in 2022.

The 2021 season saw Brito land on the All-Big Ten Third Team. The 2022 season saw Brito make the Big Ten Baseball Preseason Honors List, ABCA/Rawlings East All-Region Second Team, All-ECAC Team, All-Big Ten Third Team, and Big Ten All-tournament Team, making it his most successful season. In 2023, he landed himself on the All-Big Ten Second Team.

This past summer, Brito joined the Trenton Thunder in the MLB Draft League. He played in the league's first half, again making his mark. Brito was first in batting average with .386, first in hits with 27, first in RBI with 22, first in OBP with .506, and first in OPS with 1.120. After having standout performances with the Scarlet Knights and Trenton Thunder, Brito now turns his sights on MLB.
