Student-Athletes Celebrate Their Accomplishments at 18th Annual Jersey Awards By John Sorce

RED BANK – Another school year has come and gone, with success stories on and off the playing field. Many top athletes who performed on the field and in the classroom across the Shore Conference were honored. However, only a few well-rounded student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments at the 18th annual Jersey Awards on Tuesday, June 19 at Teak Rooftop in Red Bank. The event was fully sponsored by our wonderful local businesses, which rewarded the accomplishments of our local student-athletes and their guests.

Twenty-six of the top student-athletes in the Shore Conference were honored on a picturesque night. With the event being held on the upper level of Teak, attendees had the luxury of being either inside or outside, where the JSN team conducted interviews of the athletes and their coaches which will be posted on the JSN YouTube page this month. Please visit JSN, JERSEY SPORTING NEWS.

Each recipient received a Tiffany &Co. trophy engraved with their name, sport, school and sponsor.

The Jersey Awards are completely different than any other awards, because there is an emphasis on the work done in the classroom as well as on the field. All 26 of these senior student-athletes are excellent students. While many of them will continue their athletic careers moving forward, there will come a time where they’ll understand that education is very important. An education is something that no one can ever take away from you.

JSN certainly factors in the athletic performances of these young men and women. It’s what they accomplish in the classroom and in the community that separates them from other top athletes in our area. Players were represented from schools across the Shore Conference, coming from both Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Senior year of high school is a year that many people say you will never forget. These young adults do so much on and off the playing field. Now, the Class of 2018 will go their separate ways off to colleges across the country. For one magical night, there was a time to reflect and appreciate just how much they have accomplished throughout their high school careers.

A special “THANK YOU!” to our Platinum Sponsors: Joe Leone’s, Teak, Advisors Mortgage Group, SportsCare Institute, United States Marine Corps, U.S. Army, and Audi Eatontown. The Jersey Awards and JSN as a whole would not be possible without your support. Francesca Attardi, owner and publisher of JSN, also deserves so much credit. Francesca did an incredible job in putting this wonderful evening together. Admittedly, I did not know what to expect when I arrived. Fran made it a night to remember for everyone involved. This was my first year with JSN and my first time attending the Jersey Awards. It is amazing what this publication has become and to see the place packed with excitement. JSN’s recognition of these local student-athletes, coaches and athletic directors was an incredible experience.

JSN would also like to thank all the players, parents and coaches who took the time to come out to this wonderful event. For some of these members of our local athletic programs, it draws an end to their athletic careers. It was an honor to be a part of something that recognizes so many talented athletes who have bright futures ahead of them in whatever they decide to pursue.
